Aims of the course
The IOSH Managing Safely course aims to ensure that health and safety requirements are
appreciated by people employed in an organization and to enable them to conduct risk
assessment and thereby review their own departmental systems for safety, introduce new
controls or implement changes as appropriate to the workplace.

IOSH Managing Safely course is aimed at anyone and everyone in a working role who wants to
learn the basics of health and safety.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
It is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language so they can
understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
Course contents
The IOSH Managing Safely course consists of 7 modules.
Module 1 – Introducing Managing Safely

Module 2 – Assessing Risk

• What is risk?
• What is risks assessment?
• How are risk assessments carried out?
Module 3 – Controlling Risk

Module 4 – Understanding Responsibilities

• What does the law require you to do?

• What are the key parts of a health and safety management system?
Module 5 – Understanding Hazards

• What can you do about common hazards?
Module 6 – Investigating Incidents

• How do you carry out an investigation?

Module 7 – Measuring Performance

Course Duration
The course duration is 21 hours and can be delivered over 3 / 4 / 5 Days
How is this qualification assessed?
An IOSH Managing safely certificate is awarded to all those who attend the course and
successfully complete both the written and practical assessments.
Understanding of the course material is evaluated by means of a written assessment paper
consisting of 30 multi-format questions and a practical risk assessment.
Certification
You will receive your results within 10 working days of sitting the assessments. Once you have
achieved a pass a qualification parchment will be issued by IOSH. This is normally within 20
working days of the confirmation of successfully passing.
